Flux Schnell is now one of the free models in the generator. You can pick it from the model dropdown, or open it straight from the Flux Schnell page.
Why we added it
The free models we had were all from the Stable Diffusion 1.5 and SDXL era. They still work, but the distance between them and newer models kept growing. Flux Schnell closes most of that gap, and it is cheap. It runs at a flat $0.003 per image, so we can leave it on the free tier without watching the bill climb.
"Schnell" is German for fast. The model is built to finish an image in one to four steps instead of the thirty or fifty that older models need. So you wait a couple of seconds instead of fifteen.
What it is good at
Flux Schnell holds detail better than Stable Diffusion and sticks to the prompt more closely. Ask for three objects and you usually get three. It also handles text on signs and posters much better than the older models, which mostly produced letter-shaped noise.
Where it works well:
- Quick drafts while you are still working out the prompt
- Photoreal scenes and portraits
- Posters or mockups that need readable words
- Concept art
Where it is weaker: it trades some quality for speed, so it does not go as far on fine texture and lighting as a slower model like Flux Dev. Most of the time you will not notice. For a hero image you plan to print large, SDXL or one of the Studio models may still be the better call.
How to try it
Open the generator and Flux Schnell will already be selected. Write a prompt and hit generate. It draws from the same free image allowance as the other free models.
If you run out and want to keep going, Dreamify Studio adds more images and unlocks the faster Studio models.
