Cyberpunk is a lighting scheme as much as a genre. Its signature is coloured light from artificial sources, mostly neon and screens, in a scene with no daylight and no clean surface. The rain matters because wet asphalt reflects the signage and doubles the neon; the density matters because the city has to feel like it grew over itself rather than being planned.
