AI Landscape Generator
Landscapes are made by light and weather, not by geography. The same valley at blue hour under fog, at midday under a hard sun, and at sunset through smoke gives you three completely different images. Leading a prompt with the time of day and the atmospheric condition does far more work than listing what is in the scene.
The second thing that separates a flat landscape from one with depth is layering. Foreground, midground, and background at different levels of haze is how painters create distance, and models respond well to being told about it. "Dark foreground rocks, misty midground trees, pale distant peaks" produces depth that "a mountain landscape" never will.

misty fjord at blue hour, dark foreground rocks, layered midground cliffs fading into haze, pale distant peaks, cold desaturated palette, atmospheric perspective
golden hour over rolling tuscan hills, long shadows from cypress trees, warm amber light, soft haze in the distance, painterly
alien coastline under two moons, violet sky, black glass sand, phosphorescent surf, wide vista, cinematic
dense pine forest after rain, low fog between the trunks, shafts of pale light, deep greens and wet black bark, moody
desert canyon at midday, hard overhead sun, sharp shadows, ochre and rust sandstone layers, tiny figure on the ridge for scale
How to get better results
- Lead with time of day and weather. "Blue hour and fog" changes the image more than any list of landscape features.
- Describe three depth layers: foreground, midground, background. That is how you get a sense of distance.
- Add "atmospheric perspective" to get the haze that makes far things pale and reads as scale.
- Include something small for scale, like a lone figure or a cabin, to make the landscape feel vast.
Best for
- Wall art and prints
- Desktop and phone wallpapers
- Book and album backdrops
- Worldbuilding and campaign settings
Recommended model
Kandinsky handles atmospheric color and light beautifully, which is where landscape art actually lives.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I make a landscape feel bigger?
- Add something of known size, like a person, a cabin, or a boat, and ask for atmospheric perspective so distant elements go pale and low contrast. Scale is created by comparison, not by scope.
- Can I generate a real place?
- Named landmarks work reasonably well for very famous locations, but the model reconstructs from training data rather than reproducing the actual place, so expect an interpretation rather than an accurate depiction.
- Which model is best for landscapes?
- Kandinsky for painterly, atmospheric color, SDXL for crisp detail and larger output. Generate the same prompt on both and compare, since the difference is mostly about the mood you want.
