AI Portrait Generator
Portraiture is a lighting discipline. Rembrandt lighting, with its small triangle of light on the shadow-side cheek, reads as classical and serious. Butterfly lighting from directly above reads as glamorous. Hard side lighting reads as dramatic and unsettling. Rim lighting from behind separates a subject from a dark ground. Naming the setup gets you a portrait with intent rather than a well-lit face.
After lighting, the medium is the biggest lever. "Oil painting with visible brushwork", "charcoal study on toned paper", "35mm film photograph" and "flat vector illustration" produce four unrelated images from the same subject description. Decide the medium first and the rest of the prompt gets much easier to write.

How to get better results
- Name the lighting setup: rembrandt, butterfly, rim, split. Each one is a whole mood in two words.
- Choose the medium explicitly. Oil, charcoal, 35mm film, and vector are four different pictures of the same person.
- Say the crop: "chest up", "three-quarter view", "extreme close up". Framing is half of what makes a portrait work.
- Keep hands out of frame where you can; they are still the least reliable part of any generated figure.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I generate a portrait of a specific real person?
- You should not. Generating likenesses of identifiable people raises publicity and consent issues, and Dreamify's content moderation blocks a range of such prompts. Describe a fictional person instead.
- Why do the eyes or teeth look wrong?
- Faces are where small errors are most visible. Adding "sharp eyes, natural teeth" helps, and generating several seeds and picking the best one is usually faster than trying to fix a bad result with wording.
- Which model gives the most realistic faces?
- Stable Diffusion is the most reliable of the free models for photorealistic faces. SDXL gives more detail at higher resolution, and Kandinsky leans painterly rather than photographic.
