AI T-Shirt Design Generator
Apparel graphics live under real constraints. Screen printing charges per color, DTG printing struggles with fine gradients on dark garments, and the design has to survive being stretched across a chest and washed forty times. All of that pushes toward bold shapes, limited palettes, and heavy line weights, which is also just what looks good on a shirt.
The other constraint is the print area, typically around 30 by 40 centimetres. That means the design should be composed as a self-contained graphic on a plain background, not a scene that bleeds off the edges. Generate on white or black depending on the garment you plan to print on, so you can judge the contrast honestly.

How to get better results
- Say "isolated on white background" or "isolated on black" so the graphic can be cut out for print.
- Constrain the colors: "three color screen print" both looks better and costs less to actually produce.
- Match the background to your garment. A design designed on white often disappears on a dark shirt.
- Add "distressed texture" if you want the worn vintage look that dominates merch right now.
Best for
- Print on demand stores
- Band and event merch
- Screen printed runs
- Brand and team apparel
Recommended model
SDXL keeps flat color separations clean, which is what makes a design printable rather than a muddy gradient.
Frequently asked questions
- What resolution do I need for t-shirt printing?
- Most print on demand services want 300 DPI at the print size, roughly 4500x5400 pixels for a full front print. Generate at maximum resolution and upscale before uploading.
- How do I remove the background?
- Generate on a plain white or black background and cut it out with any background removal tool. The Sticker Maker model on Studio plans outputs transparent backgrounds directly.
- Can I sell shirts with AI designs?
- Yes, images you generate are yours to use commercially. Avoid prompts that reference trademarked characters, band logos, or a living artist's signature style, since those get takedowns regardless of how the image was made.
